Peter Wilson (Classics and Ancient History) on Modern Muses – The Greeks and New Music

Professor Peter Wilson from SOPHI’s Department of Classics and Ancient History joins a discussion on Modern Muses — The Greeks and New Music on Radio National’s Into the Music program. The program airs on Saturday February 12, 2010 and is repeated on Friday 18 February 2011.

Greek tragedy and myth have inspired art and music for generations. Composers from Monteverdi to Richard Strauss were fascinated by the opportunity to reflect on their own times through a mythical past, and the appeal persists for contemporary composers.

You can listen to the Program on Radio National, or stream the broadcast for the next four weeks. Please note that due to Radio National’s compliance with music copyright, this program will not available as a podcast.
