Library database trials

The library is trialing three databases that could be of particular significance to to research within the School. Rena McGrogan, the Faculty Liaison Librarian for SOPHI, asks you to visit the databases, and in particular provide feedback on whether they will assist you in your research.

Eighteenth Century Collections Online — ECCO II and new interface
Trial access to ECCO II, and a preview of the new interface. ESTC has uncovered a wealth of valuable new material and new holdings of previously unavailable titles. Secondly, rapid developments in scanning technology have enabled Gale to digitize works too fragile to be handled at the time of ECCO’s original production. (Not available off-campus).

The Sydney Morning Herald Digital Edition
Access to trial is via “Click here for direct access” button in top right-hand corner. A cover-to-cover online version of the SMH.
Ends 19 May 2010.

Underground and Independent Comics, Comix, and Graphic Novels
In this initial release, you’ll find more than 20,000 pages of alternative comics, including such groundbreaking series as Love & Rockets, Cerebus, Wimmen’s Comix, Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers, and more. At completion, the collection will include 75,000 pages of original material from the 1950s to today along with more than 25,000 pages of interviews, commentary, theory, and criticism from journals, books, and magazines, including the full run of The Comics Journal.
