SOPHI Grant Assistance 2009

Margaret Harris is coordinating the Arts Faculty’s ARC submission process and she will be in touch soon about the various programs on offer for advice and support of your application. Please also take advantage of the many colleagues around the place who are ARC experts of one kind or another and who can discuss your ideas with you and read your drafts as they emerge. If you are serious about applying you should be starting work on your application now…..

Once again the School will be offering financial assistance to academic staff in SOPHI for the preparation of grants for submission in 2009. This includes all ARC programs – Discovery, Linkage, Laureate, etc. – and any other major external competitive grant scheme.

The eligibility criteria is below:

  • Sole applicants (SOPHI staff only) are eligible for up to $1000 of support per application submitted through the University of Sydney.  These funds can be used for research assistance (including costs associated with photocopying etc.) and travel (if specifically related to the grant application (ie. to meet with other CIs, workshop key ideas in the application,  or any essential work required to improve the application etc.). Funds can not normally be used to purchase books or equipment of any kind.
  • A joint application between a SOPHI ECR and one (or more) non ECR(s) in SOPHI is eligible for up to $2000 of support per application submitted through the University of Sydney. Ditto above for use of funds.
  • A joint application between two (or more) SOPHI non ECRs is eligible for $1000 of support per application submitted through the University of Sydney. Ditto above for use of funds. More support may be possible if justified given the nature of the joint application.
  • A joint application between a SOPHI ECR (or non ECR) with a non-University of Sydney CI (ECR or otherwise) is eligible for $1000 of support per application ONLY if submitted through the University of Sydney.  Ditto above for use of funds.

NOTE: To keep things simple, rather than filling out an application form,  please email the Head of School, Duncan Ivison with your request for support as per the categories above and any other queries you have.
